Chess Mentor created a completely different concept in chess instruction. Chess Mentor is not a game nor is it a computer opponent that beats you mercilessly, rather Chess Mentor is like having your own private chess coach. This distinction is very important. For example, imagine playing chess against a world-renowned Grandmaster player. Playing games against him would undoubtedly yield constant defeat with very minimal instruction. As an alternative, the Grandmaster could teach you to play chess better, by providing scenarios with a specific challenge, to look at, to study, and to SOLVE.



Chess Mentor Deluxe includes Chess Mentor - Comprehensive Chess Course
and twelve Supplementary Chess Courses, for a total of over 1950
challenges. The material is partitioned into the following Challenge
Sets and Courses:

'Level I: Start Me at the Very Beginning' does exactly that. We begin
with "How to move the pieces" and progress through capturing and some
basic rules.

'Level II: Square and Rules' begins with a number of examples designed
to get the student thinking about the squares that pieces "cover". We
then present the special rules of chess.

'Level III: Basic Checkmates and ....' presents some of the most common
checkmating patterns and a few other basic concepts.

'Level IV: Introduction to Tactics' introduces the student to the
tactical tools of chess (forks, pins, etc.).

'Level V: Exclusively Checkmates' provides a series of simple checkmate
problems.

'Level VI: Step Up in Tactics' presents exercises, both checkmates and
tactical, which are somewhat more difficult than the material covered
so far.

'Level VII: Endings, Openings, a Taste of the Middle' begins with some
endgame basics and proceeds to an in-depth coverage of king and pawn
endings. We have also thrown in some opening challenges.

'Level VIII: Intermediate Tactics' presents tactical exercises that are
significantly more difficult than those seen up to this point.

'Level IX: Rook and Other Endgames' covers rook endings with some minor
piece and queen endings included.

'Level X: Advanced Tactics' contains tactical problems that will
challenge a player rated Elo or USCF 1700 or higher if attempted
without using any of the hints.
